Summer Camps
Registration is open!
We are happy to announce that our Summer Camps' registrations are open, and we're looking forward to giving our students the best experience!
All camps will follow the same schedule running from 10 am to 2 pm. Early drop off & late pick up options are available, starting as early as 9 am to as late as 3 pm.
Physics Playground Camps (2 Weeks)
Led by experienced instructors with a PhD and Masters in Engineering, this kid-friendly makerspace experience turns advanced physics into a hands-on playground for curious kids! No prebuilt kits, all projects will be designed and built from basic components by the students themselves. A small group size with a low student/instructor ratio ensures that every child has the personal attention and support they need.
June 22-26 – Week 1 – Mechanical Wonders** – registration is closed
This week we will master structural engineering and simple machines! Using specially designed gears, pulleys, ball bearings, various 3D-printed parts, and hydraulic systems, our students will design and build intricate structures, fast vehicles, working siege machines, and marble runs!
July 27-31 – Week 2 – Magic of Invisible Forces** – REGISTRATION IS OPEN
Explore the science of the unseen! This week our students will learn about electricity by creating projects with LED lights and motors, explore the science of sound and light, and build their own telescopes, musical instruments, lanterns, and custom light swords!
Note: Completing Week 1 is not required for Week 2.
Extended Care
Extended Care time is a fun, "behind-the-scenes" experience. When kids arrive, they get to hang out with the teachers, see the equipment boxes for the day get unpacked, and even help set up the daily physics demos if they want to!
They can also use the time to get a head start on their engineering projects, finish up work from the day before, or enjoy our collection of Legos, blocks, and board games. Same goes for the afternoon – they can use the extra time to finish their projects, discuss the day's science topic with the teachers, and play solo or with other kids. It’s very flexible and tailored to what they feel like doing that morning/afternoon!
Remember to Bring
Students bring their own food, so please pack ample lunch, snacks, and bring a water bottle. Weather permitting, the lunch break will be held outside. We'll stick to shaded areas, but if your child is predisposed to running around in the sunshine, please slather 'em with sunscreen or give other adequate sun protection.
These summer camps are being hosted through Lafayette's Parks, Trails & Recreation Department, and the second week camp will be at Stanley Middle School, room 804, 3455 School St, Lafayette CA, 94549 – see the map. Because P&R are hosting us, registration and payment will be handled through their website. Please click on the button to sign up!
